July 21, 2011. Diary of a Billsticker – New York City, USA

I dream about meter boxes and lamp-posts. I have a recurring dream in which I have a hydraulic drill and I am drilling holes in concrete to put up poetry posters. I wake up and feel good.

A competitor in Auckland once did a thirty-six hour postering run. In the UK, the Manchester poster scene got so competitive that someone had their hand hacked off with a machete. The music industry in London and Manchester broke bands in those cities because of the power of postering. That's how important it is.

NYC has meter boxes, telephone boxes, and cafe notice boards. These are the prime sites.

I had Bill Direen and David Eggleton posters on meter boxes in Manhattan and I stood back and watched people read them. That's the whole game right there. When you see someone stop and read a poem on a meter box in New York City, you have done something real.

Keep the Faith,
Jim Wilson
